Raised and educated in both California and Pennsylvania, our Resident Innkeeper, Jim Blunt, has devoted his entire working life to travel and hospitality. He started out as a regional sales and marketing manager for several airlines and a cruise line in Philadelphia, San Francisco and New York. He then was a national sales director for Carlson Wagonlit, Thomas Cook and American Express, where he eventually served as a global business development executive in its Travel-Related Services division. In 2001 Mr. Blunt retired from corporate life to try his hand at inn-keeping in Bucks County, PA. After a time managing a hotel on Santa Catalina Island in Southern California, Jim traded coasts and islands and came to Nantucket in early 2008.
He enjoys the variety and challenges of multitasking in all functions at the inn, sweating the details behind the scenes and, hopefully, coming across to house guests as calm, cool and collected. Jim views small lodging hospitality as a form of subtle performance art where the guest is the star in his or her own mini-drama and the inn-keeper plays all the supporting roles. His avowed mission as host is not merely to satisfy his guests but to delight them enough to ensure they come back to the Centerboard year after year.
